In a wintery day (cloudy skies, rainy and windy), of November 2018, at the historic island of Hydra, a group of passionate, daring athletes, dived into the stormy sea of the harbor, right where the Historical Archives Museum of Hydra stands and set the beginning of a historic journey taking part in the first SwimRun in Hellas (Greece)!

After the 2020 break due to the Global Health Crisis, SwimRun Hydra - an established institution by now, is back for the 4th time in November 25-27, 2022, to continue its history as the original and only SwimRun in Hellas (Greece)!

So what is SwimRun? Is it an Aquathlon like all the others, consisting of swimming and running? No. SwimRun is not just open water swimming and running race. SwimRun is an original, dynamic, unique and adventurous challenge. It is a physical and spiritual experience for a couple of athletes, who are literally tied to each other with an elastic rope, and compete in water and on land (mountain, path, rocks, sand). It is a constant alternation between swimming and running, during which the athletes have to carry their equipment and any supplies necessary (water, food, etc.), while at the same time they protect the environment by carrying back any litter. Having each other on their sides, they live together every moment.

Is it a sport for the advanced athletes? Is it dangerous?

No. SwimRun is an adventure that can be experienced by swimmer and runners of any level. Especially this year, since we introduce shorter swimming distances and a time balance of the two sports in each of their alternations. The security measures are extremely high. Each couple of athletes follows its own rhythm in order to experience this unique and indelible adventure. The choice between 3 distances, gives the opportunity to beginners to participate, to strong athletes to compete and to superathletes to overcome themselves!
